Glorious Granny Stripe!

As the crochet seems to be going well, I wanted to share with you my glorious granny stripe blanket.

The tutorial for this is available over at attic 24 I would highly recommend doing a small demo type blanket first just so you get the hang of it, the only reason I say this is, if you go ahead into the big blanket and get lost a few stripes through then you will have to go back and start again, this can be most frustrating!

Ok here we go with the pics there are lots!!!

It covers my rung in the living room, and makes you want to roll on it!

It covers my 3 seater sofa easily!
I decided to do a simple edge to my blanket
Here it is all ready to snuggle under
 Stripes fabulous stripes
And folded ready and waiting to be used.

I used Style Craft DK, Lucy also uses this and it crochets up a treat, its also very warm!  I have used slightly different colours to Lucy I think its nice to use what ever you fancy, in fact I think this would look just as nice in just a couple of colours or maybe in shades of one colour only, the options are endless!

Right must dash catch you all soon!

Card Catch Up

Its been far too long since I last updated my blog!  So time for a mini catch up on some of the things I have been up to.

I have made a fair few cards for Paper Craft Inspirations Magazine since I last posted, you may remember that I am a papercraft tester for the magazine so we get to have a play with the various stamps, templates and ideas and see what we can come up with, the themes vary depending on what we had to work with,

 here are some of them.

This has to be one of my favourites so far, by saturated canary  and you can get it
This card was made using the paper craft inspriations wedding templates, the papers are by paper mania and are gorgeous they also have some fabulous flowers to match but I didnt use them on this card.
Forever friends, I mean there cant be many people out there who don't like forever friends!  These are brilliant already coloured and ready to use on any cards, the little embellies that are in this range are gorgeous too!
And Finally
A little LOTV now the colours dont show up so well in this picture which I find a little disappointing but this stamp is so cute!

So its been a busy ol few months on the card making front, as well as card making I have been sewing and crocheting!

Sparkles Monthly Challenges - Hearts

The theme for this months challenge over at Sparkles Monthly Challenge is

HEARTS

This month we are sponsored by Di's Digi's
They are offering a £10 spend in their store.
(We are a multi craft challenge blog so you can make anything you like as long as it has a heart some where on your make.)

So April is also Autisim Awareness Month so with this in mind I decided to combine the 2, hearts with the Puzzle piece/s. The green is to hang anywhere and the little blue ones are for key rings.

Why a puzzle piece for the symbol for autism? Here is a really simple explanation:

On a nationwide level, the Puzzle Piece symbol reflects the mystery and complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Also, since every puzzle piece is different in some way, a puzzle piece accurately represents the diversity of the individuals affected. - Autism UGA

I have 2 children with Aspergers and my Brother is Autistic, so Autism month means a lot to me and my family as well as many other families, people/children with a diagnosis and carers around the world!

A little love

Mollies makes is one of my favourite magazines I cant say I buy it all the time as some times I flick through and there is nothing of interest, its usually the felt patterns that grab my attention as they are pretty darn cute!
A little while ago I purchased a copy with a Raccon and Fox pattern and decided that this was going on my list of 'TO Do's' (this list is forever growing!!)

If you want to see the Fracoons as they are called on the Mollies makes website you can watch a little love story clip HERE

So I set to cutting out all my felt in the colours I wanted.

And stitched away...... Finally...

I would like to you meet

Conquering Crochet One Stitch At A Time

So Cardmaking and sewing have taken a back seat lately as I have been teaching myself Crochet.  I tried last year and failed!  What I created wasn't even good enough to be called a dish cloth!
However I decided at the beginning of this year that I would master this fantastic craft and create a blanket in fact the lovely Denise over at Crafting Delights blog and I made a sort of pact on facebook to have a Blanket by the end of this year!

So I started out with granny squares which at first went terribly wrong, then I got the hang of them
and ended up with this
So once I had mastered that went to visit GET KNITTED my favourite wool shop (online too!) the staff are very helpful and they have a mahoosive range of wools, patterns and well anything wool related is there and a bit of sewing too!!!  I purchased some lovely pink wools and created this
I would like to say I followed a pattern but I actually just made it up as I went along!  I also made another in similar colours for a friends daughter to go on her bed.  So I have indeed stuck to the pact and Made a Blanket!  Whoop Whoop!!!

So after Mastering the simple granny square I  decided I need to learn Uk Terms for Crochet instead of American, I found most of the utube videos for beginners are based in American but there are a couple in uk.
Once I had got uk terms right in my head I made these little lovelies
This pattern is brilliant for beginners and free you can get it here Bunny mummy has some other fab free patterns with tutorials to help you crochet.

And finally this week I had a bash at making some cup cosy's

There are so many utube videos to watch to help you master crochet, I would say dont give up, once you have the hang of it, its really simple!  Yes there are more complicated patterns but over time and practise you will be able to do them if I can You can!!!

Taste the Rainbow

Sorry to have been missing for a wee while life has been very busy here at Dazie Patch however I really wanted to share with you this fab cake WE made, I say we as this was for my daughters Comic Relief Bake Off  at school so We made this together although I think she ate more that she actually made!

So for the bake off we wanted to do some thing special and I have been so totally impressed by the rainbow cakes I have seen online especially on Pininterest ....(where I seem to spend a lot of my time)... I followed this fantastically simple Recipe by The Imagination Tree
Check it out and the gorgeously scrumptious pictures too!

The only thing I did slightly different is using food colouring as I couldnt get all the colours in a gel however since making the cake I have seen the Gels and other colourings Stocked In THE RANGE at fairly good prices.

so here is the cake in all its glory finished with some jelly beans
It was massive!  This picture really doesnt do its size justice!
Here is the rainbow surprise
 Such gorgeous Rainbow colours!
Did you know I havent baked a cake from scratch since well YEARs ago
This came out perfect and tasted scrumptious!
Might I just add if you do use betty crockers fondant icing get more than 3 tubs I had a queue waiting for the pots, bowls and spoons,  It tastes gorgeous!

Christmas Wreath Tutorial

Hi all I thought I would do a quick little Christmas wreath tutorial for you.
The pictures aren't great as the light is so terrible but I hope you will get the gist of it as you go along.

This is what I hope your wreath will look like once its done, or of course you can add your own decorations.

What you will need

  • A polystyrene wreath, I got mine from The Range it was 99p for 2 at the time Bargain!
  • Fabric glue or A good pva glue.
  • Felt - I have used Red Green and White all from the fabulous Felt Fairy
  • Sharp scissors
  • Pins and decorative tipped pins
  • Thread in green for holly
  • Pen and paper or a small holly template

Cut your Strips of Felt, you want to make sure that they fit around the wreath hoop with enough for one end to cover the other.  Depending on what size hoop you buy creat your first piece then use this to cut the rest.  This is a brilliant way to use up scraps of felt or fabric!

Wrap each piece around your hoop on a slight angle this will help keep the pieces nice flat and in place.  Once you have each piece in place, use some glue to stick the feltand then pin.  The pin will help keep the piece in place as the glue dries.

Continue to work your way around the hoop until you are all glued and pined. Then set to one side to dry.
You should then have some thing that looks like this when you have finished

Whilst your wreath is drying you can work out what you would like to decorate it with.  I decided to go with roses and holly leaves.  I  drew my own holy template and cut out some green holly shapes, then I did a little bit of stitching to create the appearance of creases in the holy.

The Roses are really simple to make you cut out a circle and then cut around and around to create a snake like piece of felt then roll up and glue as you go to create the circle affect. There are dies out there that do the same cut or plenty of tutorials online.  Here is one I have found for you,
The Pretty Poppy
It just so happens that they are for a beautiful wreath!

When your wreath is dry remove all the pins that have kept everything in place.
Then decorate with your roses and holy leaves
I have used dress pins with red and white heads for the centre of my roses, this keeps them in place but I have used glue to secure them and the leaves too.

I added a little piece of ric rac in a loop so that the wreath can be hung on walls or doors.
The ric rac is secured with pins so can be changed to a longer piece, smaller piece.

I have seen some gorgeous wreaths online

I hope you have enjoyed my quick little tute if you have any questions please feel free to email me or leave a comment and I will get back to you asap.

Busy Chrirstmas Bee

Hi all these past few weeks I have been busy sewing, rag wreathing and snowman soup a making, all ready for Christmas.  I do love this time of year and I think I must spend all of October and November creating Christmas goodies I cant believe some people start in July!

My 2 lovely friends Emma and Shona introduced me to rag Wreathing and I am totally hooked!  It did take me at least 3 attempts to get it just the way I like it, they might be rags but they have to still look nice and presentable.  So here are my wreaths that I am selling this Christmas.

If you fancy having a go at making these then there are lots of tutorials online to follow and utube videos.  But be warned when you start you may not want to stop!

Penguin Cuteness

Paper craft inspirations is out again this month with some very festive ideas which are both cute and some more traditonal.  As always the printables are available online the papercraft inspriations website where you can download them for freeeeeeeee

This month I had the opportunity to work with the gorgeous and very cute Penguins!  I chose to make a easel card, I added flowers with snowflakes in the middle to give it a festive feel.  I am not one for traditional colours at Christmas so I used pink and blue.  I have used vellum for the hills as well as some of the decoration.  Making the mini bunting is so easy with scraps of paper and some twine.

Thanks for popping by I hope to be able to catch up with some blogs soon, its half term here so we are busy out and about.

Jam Filled sweetness

Good afternoon everyone, guess what its sunny here woop woop!
Just had to share as we don't see it often!

Back to business this month in the fabulous Paper Craft Inspirations Magazine issue 104 my tester project had a Jam theme.  As soon as I saw the pictures I was in awe of the creations and ideas that the Angela Came up with.  Some ideas using buttons and the most gorgeous papers ever!  So after I had dug around in my paper stash and embellishment stash this is what I came up with.....

The papers are all by Jillibean soup - coconut soup rage, As is the sentiment which is from sentiment stickers set.  I have also used A martha stewart doily lace punch.  A miranne creatables die for tag and the ribbon is from my stash.  The twine is SU and I believe the Embossing folder I used was by Papermania.  Everything else was from my stash.

Big Burger Invite

This month for Paper Craft Inspirations Magazine we had a fab theme of 'cards for men' they arent your usual car or golf type!  We worked around the Bar B Q theme which is such a great idea and so easy to do, if you get the magazine or have a copy you will get the templates inside to use there are some fab examples of other cards made using the templates by the other paper craft testers.

So to make my card a little different I thought I would make a little burger invite, there are so many bar b q's going on this summer (what we have of a summer) that some slightly different party invites were ideal.

You can adapt the card for any situation you could even make it a giant burger and add some more layers!  Using ribbon is a fantastic idea for lettuce,  it was a way to use some of the green ribbon I have in my stash!

So there we have it a Buger themed invite for a Lads Bar B Q or maybe just for some one who loves burgers!
